Culture and the culinary arts under one roof: Daddy blogger Georg Lux and his daughter Lucia discover the Wiegele bakery and mill in Nötsch im Gailtal.

Culture and the culinary arts under one roof: Daddy blogger Georg Lux and his daughter Lucia discover the Wiegele bakery and mill in Nötsch im Gailtal.

The bakery and mill – the last still in use in the Gail Valley – have been in family ownership since 1876. The owner Hermine Wiegele only processes products she has grown herself. Amongst other things the house specialities include her creations made of polenta.

The first floor of the building houses the Museum des Nötscher Kreises. This represents four of the most important local artists of the 20th century, who shared Nötsch im Gailtal (Carinthia) as the focal point of their lives. Sebastian Isepp (1884 - 1954), Anton Kolig (1886 - 1950) and Franz Wiegele (1887 - 1944) count alongside Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka as founders of modern painting in Austria, which was also supported by Gustav Klimt.

Further information about the bakery, mill and museum is available at www.wiegelehaus.at, and more tips for excursions can be found in the Kärnten Reisetagebuch [Carinthia travel blog], at www.kaernten.at and on the platform www.erlebnis.net.
